10 tips to help you save fuel
March 23 2022,
With the rising cost of fuel, everybody is looking to save on fuel. That’s why we have put together a list of tips that will help you do just that.
- Reduce the use of the remote starter
The remote starter is convenient in very cold weather, but it's not ideal for fuel economy. If you can, reduce the use of the remote starter and drive the vehicle to warm it up.
- Reduce the use of air conditioning
Whether it's summer with air conditioning or winter with heating, avoiding turning the fan on full blast will directly impact and improve fuel economy. The more you hear your air conditioner, the more the motor consumes and using the air conditioning at maximum can increase consumption by 20%. This is no small thing.
- Drive in a linear fashion
Full throttle acceleration and hard braking are the sworn enemies of fuel economy. Accelerating in a more linear fashion and braking gradually will improve your vehicle's efficiency.
- Reduce your speed
Speed has a huge impact on our fuel consumption. Studies show that driving 120 km/h on the highway instead of 100 km/h increases fuel consumption by 20%. On a 150 kilometer trip, you only save 15 minutes and lose a lot of efficiency.
- Check tire pressure
Always drive with tires inflated to the optimum pressure recommended by the manufacturer. This not only improves fuel economy, it also provides better comfort and traction. In addition, you should avoid driving too long on our winter tires because they generate more friction than summer tires. As soon as the outside temperature allows it, it is better to install summer tires.
- Have the wheels and suspension inspected
Having your alignment checked for proper alignment every 25,000 km will reduce tire friction. Tires can pull outward when not properly aligned, which increases rolling resistance and therefore fuel consumption.
- Maintain the engine
A clean air filter and an engine in good condition will make the engine more efficient and reduce fuel consumption.
- Remove unnecessary items
No one likes to install and remove the roof box every weekend, but roof boxes such as bike racks and roof rails increase air resistance and decrease fuel economy.
- Reduce weight
Weight increases fuel economy. If you can, try to remove anything that adds weight in the suitcase or trailer hitch.
- Use vehicle features
Many vehicles have fuel-saving driving modes or features that help improve fuel economy. Your vehicle may have an ECO drive mode that will adjust the parameters of the vehicle to help you save fuel. If your vehicle has features that can help improve fuel economy, you should put them to use!
