A Few Tips on How to Prepare Your Car for Winter
November 18 2022,
As the leaves change colour and fall gently to the ground, we know that winter is just around the corner. For many of us, that means breaking out the heavy coats, scarves and hats. But what about your car? Just like your home, your car needs a little bit of preparation for the winter months. Below are a few tips on how to get your car ready for winter.
Check your battery
The cold weather puts extra strain on your car battery, so it's important to make sure it is in good condition before the winter sets in. You can do this by taking it to our dealership and having one of our mechanics test it for you. If your battery is more than three years old, it might be time for a replacement.
Fill up on fluids
Just like your body needs water to function properly, so does your car! Make sure you check all of your fluid levels (oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid, etc.) and top them off as needed. Getting an oil change before the winter hits is also a good idea to ensure your engine is running smoothly.
Inspect your tires
Did you check your winter tires before putting them on your car? If not, now is the time! You want to make sure the tread is still in good condition so that your tires can grip the road properly. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on your tire pressure as the temperature starts to drop.
Keep an emergency kit in your car
No one likes to think about being stranded on the side of the road in a snowstorm, but it's always better to be prepared just in case! Put together an emergency kit with items like jumper cables, flares or reflective triangles, a first-aid kit, a small shovel and some snacks and water. That way, if you do find yourself in a difficult situation, you'll be equipped to handle it until help arrives.
By following these simple tips, you can help ensure that your car is ready to take on whatever winter throws its way! If you have any questions or concerns, our team at our dealership would be more than happy to help you out. Stay safe and warm out there!
