A Quick Look at Mazda's All-New Inline-Six Engine
October 13 2022,
Mazda is set to release an all-new inline-six engine for their upcoming CX-60, CX-70, and CX-90 models. This new engine will produce 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque thanks to a combination of turbocharging, 3.3 litres of displacement, and 48V mild-hybrid technology. Here's everything we know about this new engine so far.
What We Know So Far
Mazda's current lineup is entirely made up of 4-cylinder engines, but this is about to change with the release of a new inline-six engine. With some respectable publications having recently started disclosing information about Mazda's new inline-six engine, we now know a bit more information. First and foremost, this new 3.3L engine will produce an impressive 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. This is a result of turbocharging and 48V mild-hybrid technology working together.
This all-new engine will be featured in the CX-60, which North America will not see, but could make its way in the upcoming CX-70 and CX-90. Both of those SUVs are expected to be unveiled later this year or early next year.
CX-70 and CX-90
Mazda is set to introduce two new crossover SUVs to the Canadian market: the CX-90 and the CX-70. Both vehicles will be built on Mazda's all-new longitudinal architecture and will offer a variety of powertrain options, including a turbocharged inline-six engine and plug-in hybrid models. The CX-90 will be a three-row SUV, while the CX-70 will have two rows of seats.
The CX-70 will be an all-new addition to Mazda's lineup in Canada, and the CX-90 will replace the current generation CX-9 as Mazda's only three-row SUV offering. More information on these two models will be announced closer to their on-sale dates.
Now, we might not get the same straight-six engine that's making its way in the Mazda CX-60, but it sure gives us a good idea of this engine's potential. We're expecting great things from Mazda's all-new inline-six engine and can't wait to see it in action. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
