Changing the Wipers on your 2019 - 2020 Mazda3 & Mazda3 Sport
Experiencing streaking or are your wipers missing areas? Time to replace them!
June 01 2020, Scarboro Mazda
One of the most critical maintenance we can all stay atop of is our wiper blades! It's recommended to inspect and change your blades every 6 months to a year, or as soon as you notice a difference in driving visibility. For example, if you experience squeaking, chattering, if it skips, smears, streaks or if a piece of it breaks off, it's critical to replace them.
The 4th generation Mazda3 and Mazda3 have a new front wiper design and it sits slightly below the hood line of the vehicle. The design contributes to the exterior design and proportions of the vehicle, as well as protecting the blades from the elements and reducing the amount of wind drag from wind travelling through the wipers. With this design, you must move the wipers to the Service Position before changing the wiper blades, or in the winter, when you leave your wiper arms up during a storm - if you don't it will damage your wiper arms.
Here are the steps to getting to the Service Position.
1. Without stepping on the brake or clutch pedal, push start engine button twice for accessory mode.
2. Then press it once more to switch ignition to off.
3. Lift up (push upwards) your wiper lever up to the mist position two times within 30 seconds after switching the ignition off.
4. You will now see that the wipers will rise and stop at the service positions.
5. Once in service position, exit your vehicle and gently pull the wipers away from the windshield into Lock Mode.
6. To change the blade, slide the blade component in the direction of the arrow while pressing the wiper arm tab to remove the blade component from the wiper arm.
7. Pull the blade rubber in the direction of the arrow and slide it to a position where the blade holder groove can be checked.
8. Pull the end of the blade rubber from the blade holder groove in the direction of the arrow and remove the blade rubber from the blade holder.
9. Insert the end of the new blade rubber into the groove of the blade holder until it contacts the end of the blade holder.
10. After pulling the blade rubber in the direction of the arrow and sliding the blade rubber to a position to check the blade holder groove, slide the blade rubber end in the opposite direction.
11. Make sure that the blade rubber is correctly installed to the blade holder.
12. Slide the blade component and install it to the wiper arm.
13. Slowly lower the wiper arms back onto the windshield.
14. To move the wipers back to their initial position, get into your vehicle, and without touching the brake or clutch pedals, push the start engine button twice. Press up on the wiper lever to the mist position once to have the wipers return back to their initial position.
Congratulations! You've just learnt how to correctly put your wipers into the service and lock positions! High-five! If you ever forget, you can always reach out to our Mazda Experts, or you can look in your owner's manual which is built into your infotainment system - pretty awesome right?
