The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently conferred the highest safety accolade, the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award, to Mazda's 2024 CX-90 Mild Hybrid Inline 6 Turbo (MHEV) and CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models. This recognition highlights Mazda's continual dedication to vehicle safety.
IIHS president, David Harkey, acknowledged Mazda's efforts in meeting the enhanced award criteria established in 2023, praising the remarkable performance exhibited by the newly launched SUVs. Aligning with this, David Klan, the President and CEO of Mazda Canada Inc., reiterated the brand's priority to uphold safety standards, constantly seeking improvements to retain a leading position in vehicle safety - a critical consideration for Mazda's clientele.
The stringent conditions to qualify for the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ entail securing good ratings across several crash test categories, including both the driver and passenger-side small overlap front tests and the updated side tests. Additionally, vehicles must offer acceptable or good standard headlights across all variants, coupled with an available front crash prevention system that garners advanced or superior grades during both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
Furthermore, the Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and CX-30 have been recognized with the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award when outfitted with the optional front crash prevention technology. The CX-5 and CX-50 models have also attained the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award, facilitated by their standard equipment offerings.
Through these recognitions, Mazda has evidently demonstrated its commitment to advancing safety in the automotive industry, fostering a safer environment on the roads by meeting and exceeding the established safety benchmarks.
